The book Speak is a good book so far because it is a book that you can't seem to put down. I also think it is a good book because the athour uses great text details in the book, such as "I can't drink Orange Juice because it will sting my scabby lips." I don't really think heather should of join tht clan i think that she should of maybe start her own 'clan'.
I have no idea why the book is called speak. Maybe Melinda is keeping something from everyone and maybe doesn't know if she should or not.
Well it said in the book that Melinda called the cops and some people got arrested at a summer party. So that might be why.

To answer Sarah... i think that Heather isn't a really trustworthy friends and i think that Heather will drop her like last months trend.
To answer Brittany... i think that none of her friends like her or talk to her anymore is because she did something horrible. maybe its becuase she didn't hang out with her friends over the summer becuase it says on the back of the book that she spent the summer watching bad cartoons and that she didn't go to the mall, the lake, the pool or even answer the phone, and that is why she has all the wrong hairdos and cloths coming into high school.
Wow! This book is really good! I think that the turkey figure that ment pain described Melinda and her feelings.
I dont think that Melinda's parents are really good parents becuase they barely speak to eachother.

Basically, only 5 pages are needed to intrigue readers. This book interested me very quickly. I really enjoy reading about how Melinda survives in high school without many friends. I enjoy the author's ideas about the teachers, such as the spanish teacher who refuses to speak englishor Mr. Neck. Also i think it is funny that the school cannot make up their minds about the school mascot.

I think the book Speak is a good book so far. I think that Melinda is relly good in art because she using items from the bin like happy meal toys, barbie dolls, lost playing cards,groccery-store receipts, keys, saltshakers, and toy trains. She is very creative by using the turkey bones from their Thanksgiving turkey in art class for her tree project.
Sarah's Question: I think that Heather is the type of girl that wants to hang out with alot of people the complete opposite of Melinda.Over all I think Heather is a nice girl.

I think the Mascot should be The Syracuse Scorpions. It's a cool name and I think the football players will agree,even though they don't play well. It will also make a very cool mascot coustume.

I think that Melinda should try out for the basketball team because she has a very good throw and it will also give her a chance to meet new people and make new friends. I also think she should teach "Basketball Pole" how to throw foul shots, plus it will give her an A in gym if she does.

I think the book Speak was an awesome book, but it had some inapropriate parts in it. I hope Laurie Halse Anderson makes a sequel to Speak because I have so many questions because of the ending.

I really liked the ending of this book when Melinda finally finds her voice. The end of this book was really enjoyable and it was very interesting. I recomend this book to those who enjoy reading about nonconformity.
I like the format that the author used for the book. It is more interesting then just paragraph after paragraph.
I think Melinda will tell her art teacher everything.

This book is very different than other books i have read. Definitely how it is set up. So far all i know is that Gary and Brendan become friends in 9th grade at a school, calld Middletown High. They both have been going to school with and okay attitude and comes home upset, angry and fustrarted. They have been bullied everyday and from my point of view very upset. the teachers at Middletown High don't do anything to stop it, which is very wrong.
Questions~ Do think the teachers at Middletown high are "smart" teachers. Meaning that they do have idea of what is going on and want to help.
Do think Gary and Brendan are planning something very seriuos.

I think that the book is really different. It has you guess what is happening and ,like TTFN, it has a lot of inferencing involved. Becuase in TTFN we had to infer becuase of the IMs and now in Give A Boy A Gun there are many interviews which when some may include more inferring than others.
When do you think the boys decided to do this? Was it all of a sudden anger? Or was it a plan stratagized for weeks?

I think the book is awesome. Since Lina discovered the box, I get so into it. I really want to know what the message in the box really says. I also think it is so sad that Lina's Granny passed away. All she has left is Poppy and now she has to live ith her neighbor Mrs. Murdo.

I think that the teachers are unaware of any bullying which isnt ok. Its there job to notice these things even if no one told them directly. Which leads me to another point. I really cant believe that no one in the whole school reported this or not even the kids being bullied. And I also think that Gary and Brendan DID plan something serious as it was mentioned.

I could not believe the ending
when they found the journal, realized that they were above Ember, and sent down the note.

Brendan and Gary have changed alot since the first 60 pages. Their actions are not the beat. For example, Brendan chooses to go to a party but it is more like a football party. As Brendan walks towards the gate that leads to the party, Sam (bully) and his girlfriend, Diedre, are walking out. So Sam walks furiously out and doesn't hold it for is girlfriend. I thought that was really direspestful. So Brendan decides to hold the door open for Diedre, but while doing so some people said he bowed or touched her shoulder or something. As i read that it sounded like he was asking for it.
Questions~ Do you think Brendan and Gary are serious about their "plan".

I think that the story was interesting because of the facts at the bottom. I think that this book has really helped me see something that even the health teacher couldn't show me. I think that the major problem/contributer to bullying is mean behavior from bullies. If people were to understand and let eachother be themselves this wouldn't be a problem. I believe that others think that the problem is guns. But its really childrens availability to guns. One of the facts at the bottom of the page I read said that a gun in a house forty-three times more likely to hurt someone you know then a stranger in self defense.
